Aïe !

…Is what French people exclaim when they hurt themselves. It’s pronounced ‘eye!’. Yesterday when I was cleaning the shower, I splashed my eye with cleaning product. Fortunately I was in the right place to be able to wash it out quickly. It didn’t hurt for long but it was really red. During the evening it started to hurt a little as I was watching TV and not moving my eyes around much.

Before I went to bed I had to open a new bottle of the eye drops which I use every day because of allergies. Being the good person that I am I decided to reread the leaflet that comes with them in case there was mention of not using the drops if you got something in your eye like cleaning products. Hydrochloric acid is noted as one of the ingredients!

This morning my eye is fine thanks – just a touch of conjunctivitis in the other eye…

Did you know that if you take medicines for long periods you should check the leaflet enclosed from time to time as they are updated every now and then?

Having splashed all sorts of nasties into my eyes at one time or another at work (where we seemed to be constantly using toxic chemicals), the most painful experience was when I managed to hold a perfume bottle back-to-front and squirt myself in the eye. Crikey! Blinded for several minutes! This is a useful tip if you don't have CS gas handy some time....

Glad you flushed it out without too much damage...

We say ouch. I hate cleaning products smell. When I clean the tub or toilet, I really cough from the fumes and it takes my breath away. Glad you are OK.

I'm glad you managed to flush it out! And to read the directions on your eye drops.

Hope the conjunctivitis clears up quickly! That's no fun.

Ouch! I've often wondered if I'd be in danger of splashing cleaning products in my eye when bent over scrubbing the bath and might get some eye drops to keep handy just in case.

or, maybe I shouldn't clean the bathroom at all, just to be on the safe side? :)

You can come over the puddle and clean my bathrooms now if you want, since you already splashed into your eye, there is no more danger right?

Besides, I can't bend my knee enough to get down and clean the tub, etc....

Sorry to hear you got your eyes jacked up like that! Hope they clear up quickly!

Dru: Perfume is lethal stuff. Have you ever accidentaly tasted any?

Connie; Yes, I have difficulty breathing when I clean the shower. I squirt the product directly onto a cloth or sponge to cut out the spray in the air.

Véronique: The conjuctivitus cleared up really quickly thank you. the drops I'm using have really made a difference.

Kath: I like your solution. I've also worked out if we did less cleaning it would be better for the enviroment!!

Don: My knees weren't too good then either. I have enough coping with my own bathroom cleaning - sorry

Cas: Fortunately I could see it without my glasses on...
