Good Morning England The Boat That Rocked

I haven’t seen it yet. Dom gave me the DVD for Christmas telling Rob that he wouldn’t like the film (he was only 7 at the time). I’ve got to save it for when he’s not around one evening.

Olivier came home yesterday and spotted that I’d got the DVD and was telling me what a great film it was and did I listen to Radio Caroline and all that….

I use to listen to Radio Luxemburg most evenings between fade outs. Do you remember Tony Prince and Kid Jensen? When I discovered that there was a regular magazine FAB 208 I quickly became a regular reader. I remember it changed quite a bit during the period I read it. Does anyone remember Mandy’s Diaries? Then there was a short story in every issue. They included some flower girl pictures (just for our bedroom walls), over a month I think it was, one for every season. I kept one of them (the one with the blue flower girl) for years. I divided it into squares so that I could copy it – I never did. Not forgetting pics of our favourite stars (I had a lot of pinholes in my bedroom wall), especially The Monkees.

Did I listen to Radio Caroline and all that? Yes I did.

I just found this complete with jingles and lots of info on Radio Luxemburg 208

oo, I'd not heard of that film and I just watched a trailer. Must see. Though no, I didn't listen to Luxembourg. More Radio 3, me, back then...

(Yup that was me above...)

This isn't 'The Boat That Rocked' is it (retitled for France)?

I was an avid Luxy listener... under the covers at my school, with a dodgy earpiece. Terrible reception...great music...really evocative. For some reason I think of tunes like 'January' by Pilot...and the Emperor Rosko!

What night was the chart show? I never missed that!

Dru: Did they have Radio 3 back then?

Josephine: As you can see I've done a few corrections. As it has an English title I assumed that it was the original. I used to listen to the Emperor on Saturday mornings on Radio one. He used to do a missing persons thing - almost worth getting lost for, just to hear his lovely voice saying your name... 'sigh'

I don't remember the chart show, I wonder what day the charts went out. Top of the Pops was Thursday, Tony Blackburn/Alan Freeman on Sunday...

I'm thinking 1969 onwards, and R3 was good for the wilder shores of experimental jazz as well as, er, classical stuff. Earlier, my mum used to listen to the radio in the kitchen, and I'm sure I recall listening to Jimmy Clitheroe and 4-way Family Favourites at Sunday lunch, but that was about it.

Now as I was saying...before my PC restarted!
I remember the golden days of radio 1. Tony Blackburn and David 'diddy' Hamilton etc. Whenever I was home from school I listened to radio 1 right through the day until Mum came home from work...sigh great memories.

Speaking of Tony Prince
wasn't he the head of the UK elvis fan club? Or am I getting him mixed up with another DJ

and now (tony blackburn voice) lets listen to another super sensational summertime sound here on radion 1!

cant send this vis wordpress its says open ID error, this is what happened before so I restrated my PC??? so Im trying to send this now as an anonymous sender

Dru: I like radio 3 I've never got round to trying to get it here. When I used to clean my budgie's (Robinson caruso) cage out on Saturday mornings we used to listen to Radio 3. I learnt to appreciate opera more because of that. Family favourites was Sunday lunch time, they only ever seemed to play 'Georgia'. All those BFPOs....

Helen: I knew that it was you! I used to do my homework listening to John Peel. I like the Tony Blackburn impersonation!! Hope the problem isn't because of something I've done.

I wanted to see this when it was in the theater but got voted down; it doesn't come out on DVD here for another month, I think, but I'm waiting...

I'll watch most anything with Mssrs. Hoffman or Nighy in it!
