Carpe diem

The recent rise to fame of Susan Boyle and her incredible voice serves as a reminder to us all how important it is to pursue your dreams before it is too late. In my mind 50 is the moment when you still have the time to try. A year or so back I decided to write down the thoughts and ideas that were in my head. Word made things easy for me; when I was 10 my teacher, Mr Sadler, sat observing me while I wrote and came to the conclusion that my brain was working too fast for my hand. This was why my handwriting was and still is, so bad. It’s taken me 40 years to really start to write. It doesn’t matter that I will never be properly published, I’m having a great time just making up stories and trying to make the people in them behave as if they were real. Some stories are useless and other are much better.

What are you doing?

Teaching - at this point it is totally volunteer (senior citizen), but I always feel good to share the information that I know. Teaching is my passion. And I love children and old people best.

Keep on writing!

I write for myself, and sometimes I put them on my blog, but at 60+ I just spend my time volunteering and gave up on pursuing my dreams.

I was never good at writing. At school, when we had to make "composition", I always had mediocre marks. And in my professional life (in the last ten years) I always had a rough time preparing project proposals. In such a way that it was clear for people to understand. Luckily enough, there were not many to write.

I seem though not to have problems writing my silly things on the blog.

Not near as much as I should be! I'm a dabbler. You're a good writer, I'm glad you're writing!

I have an unquenchable need to be a jackass, but Society frowns on that, so writing a blog is the only relief I have.

Writing my own blog...regardless of how many people read it. Also growing a garden so I can have organic food and hopefully share it with others

"..my handwriting was and still is, so bad..". Obviously you haven't read the book I sent.

Go to the back of the class and write out (in your bestest handwriting) "I WILL read the book and reform my errant ways" a hundred times, and see me at playtime!

I'm taking drawing classes ... specifically nature drawing classes. It's totally out of my comfort zone but it is awakening my mind ... forcing me to see things in a new way. For me ... that's the point ... forcing my mind to open up and my brain to fire in new ways!

Wonderful post!

STEVE: I've forwarded your comment to the address that I think is Michelle's. It's a long time since we exchanged emails - I just home that it isn't her old workplace address

The Susan Boyle story is very inspiring. I turned 50 this year and am still pursuing my dream of being a screenwriter.

You got to have a dream, if you want to have a dream come true...

Around age 40 I trained in a Health Kinesiology - an complementary/alternative health system that had helped me enormously... I was hugely enthusiastic, I mean I hadn't been able to eat chocolate without a migraine for over 17 years, and now I have it whenever I want it (which is quite often!) and no migraines - who wouldn't want to help others in the same boat... on the off-chance it would help at least some others... but then after only 2 years... I stopped getting "energy permission" to work (technical jargon for part of what you have to do in HK)... but suddenly now (just past 50.5 if we're counting) I'm getting permission once more!!!

Okay so now I have to go through professional updating and taking on a few guinea pigs again before I'm let loose on the public but my dream is back on track!!!

:-)

And I'm experiencing a terrible outbreak of !!!!'s

I’m sorry I’ve taken so long to reply to all of the comments. We are a creative bunch!

Cas: I loved teaching too. It’s good you’ve found something you really enjoy

Mary Lou: You didn’t mention the theatre !!

Peter: perhaps with blogging you’ve found the way that suits you.

Kimberly: Thank you for the compliment. I always enjoy your writing.

Trooper Thorn: Thanks for the visit. I’ll be checking up on you…

Mrs West:: I agree with you on the blog part, I do it because I enjoy it. I keep meaning to get out into the garden…

Keith: Yes I slipped up there didn’t I? I know where the book is and I will carry on with it.

Small Footprints: I loved going to art classes, it took me completely away from the cares of everyday life. Unfortunately our teacher left the village

Rhea: I’ll be looking out for you in the credits!

Caroline: I had to look up Health Kinesiology. It’s really interesting. It’s great that your juices are flowing again (as it were) . I didn’t think you were that old, no more than 35!! I think that the !!!!!s are a sign of how pleased your are(!)
