Ouch!

Olivier came in yesterday with the story that the mayor’s wife has lost some fingers. She was closing the shutters in the wind and the shutter blew back onto her hand. I did something similar when we were living in La Rochelle. The shutter flipped back onto my fingers. It took a while for me to pluck up enough courage to look. Our shutters are old, wooden and ill fitting after the years of damp winters and very hot summers, so hopefully I don’t have to worry too much.

  1. When I was a kid, about 8ish, I did something similar...we lived in OLD farm house, all original, so it had those big, heavy, solid wood doors, on ALL doorways, interior & exterior. Well I was coming out of a room, and had put one hand on the jamb, and the other on the knob closing the door. My index finger on the jamb was a little too close to where the door was going and I "crunched" my finger. I didn't feel anything at first, just heard the crunch noise, opened the door back up, moved my hand and shut the door. Then I looked. At first glance, the pain hit...Our house was attached to my parents business, a bowling-alley-turned-supper-club, the bldg about a block long & Mom in the very back. She said she heard me scream all the way back there. They sewed my finger back together and it still works (mostly) to this day:)
Okay, just wanted to get to be the first to comment. Woohoo!

I bet you will allow for the windage-factor when fiddling with the shutters in future now wont you?

Did you shout "Oh, bother!" or words to that effect?
