You heard it here first II
Rob found me this on the Ryan air case. My Mother-in-law paid 18 pounds too for a wheel chair for Christian when they came at Christmas.
The stars my destination….
That was the title of a book I’ve read several times since 1970. It is the story of the adventures of a man called Gulliver Foyle. This is his poem as I remember it:

Gulliver Foyle is my name,
Terra is my nation,
Deep space my dwelling place
And death my destination

In the book people ‘jaunt’, that is, travel by imagining where they want to be. This causes a lot of problems as once someone has been into your house, if they can remember enough they can get back in. Smallpox reappears, leprosy is epidemic, etc. etc. Terrible crimes are carried out.

Yesterday I was listening to the news. They were talking about a man in Germany who advertised over the internet for someone who was willing to be killed and eaten. The awful thing is that someone answered his request.

Back to the book: What we are doing now over the internet, isn’t that a little bit like jaunting? In the space of a few minutes I can travel from Norway to south Africa, from Scotland to Ohio. We are all busy screening ourselves off from terrible viruses and the worst part, all manner of perversion is rearing it’s ugly head, like worms to the surface after the rain.

Science fiction writers know what they are talking about.

You heard it here first
Peter isn't the only one to talk about things before everyone else. Didn't I tell you on January 12th that to use a wheelchair if you are flying Ryan air costs 18 pounds stirling? Today I turned on my radio to hear that they have been taken to court over this. They are appealing and say that there will be 50 pence added onto the cost of tickets in order to cover the costs of letting disabled people have a wheelchair.
An excellent start to the day
I was reading busy mom when I came across this. Have you heard of "Anji the severely abused Great Dane"? You just might need a handkerchief.

On a lighter note
To happier things now: Christian phoned me yesterday afternoon to say that it was snowing! Snowing very thick, fast covering flakes. He's never really seen snow before, we do get some but it's rare and not very deep. I'm sure that there are plenty of you out there at the moment who will be offering to send me theirs! No thanks.
I fell asleep
Last night French television showed the TV film “Hitler, the rise of evil” with Robert Carlyle as Hitler. I’m afraid to say I fell asleep, the part I saw looked very interesting indeed. Dom checked it out on the internet before hand and discovered that 40 minutes had been censored. Mainly parts referring to anti-Semitism. Rob was going to watch the debate afterwards but there were so many advertisements beforehand that he gave up and came to bed.

I always associate Hitler with period pains. Here is the reason why. When I was around fifteen years old I remember being in bed in dreadful pain from stomach cramps, One of my sisters was reading a biography of Hitler at the time and it was the first book within my reach to distract myself. Not the most amusing of distractions!
I hope it’s not real
(Some of you may find this next post a little shocking)
Looking though the e-mail I receive regularly form Linky and Dinky I came across a site I really thought would be a silly joke. It looks very serious indeed. Apparently a web-cam has been placed in the coffin of a woman. This has been done with the permission of her family. The picture is on the front page of the site, so you can’t exactly avoid looking. I found this very upsetting; when my Father died of cancer two and a half years ago the funeral didn’t take place until ten days after he had died. I was really upset to think of his body hanging around as it were. (As Olivier very tactfully told me yesterday, really it was just his body left) I can’t imagine many families taking up the offer of a web-cam to watch over their loved ones.

My inner child is six years old today

My inner child is six years old!

Look what I can do! I can walk, I can run, I can
read! I like to do stuff, and there's a whole
big world out there to do it in. Just so long
as I can take my blankie and my Mommy and my
three best friends with me, of course.

How impressed I am with the culinary skills of my male blogging friends. I'm starving now!
